Socio-Economic impact

Start of main content

The Port is, unquestionably, an important factor in the socio-economic development of the province of Huelva, and makes an important contribution to the province’s employment and Gross Value Added. In 2017, Huelva Port Authority measured the economic impact generated by its economic activity in 2016. The results of the study showed that the Port of Huelva, given its activity, was the essential logistical support for the main economic sectors of the province. Therefore, continuing with this line of research, the Port of Huelva Economic Impact Study was updated in 2019 using 2018 data,

The study applies a methodology based on the 2010 input-output framework of the Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography, which allows the total impact on the Gross Value Added (GVA) and regional employment, disaggregated into direct, Indirect and induced effects to be estimated.

The impact groups considered were: Port Industry and Port-Dependent Industry. A total of 157 companies (11 public entities) and an AIQBE dependency percentage of 89.30% was taken into account.

All the impact studies conducted can be consulted on the Port of Huelva website.
